Estate Sale Highlights: Mid-Century Style and Vintage Finds in Greentree
Our recent Greentree estate sale on Rhodes Avenue was one of those sales where every room seemed to have something completely different waiting inside. The home offered Mid-Century Modern furniture and artwork, antique lighting, Griswold cast iron, jewelry, designer clothing, Christmas collectibles, glassware, and plenty of everyday finds.
From the start, the variety made this home especially fun to explore.
You could admire a beautiful MCM bedroom set in one room and discover an antique Christmas lamp in another. Even better, some of the most interesting finds weren’t necessarily the things shoppers came looking for.
Mid-Century Finds at Our Greentree Estate Sale
Mid-Century Modern pieces gave this home plenty of personality.
One of the standouts was a beautiful Drexel bedroom set. Drexel furniture still catches the attention of shoppers who appreciate well-made vintage pieces, and this set certainly deserved a closer look.
Meanwhile, the Mid-Century style continued onto the walls. A large abstract textured painting by Lee Reynolds brought plenty of color and character to the collection. Shoppers could also find additional MCM wall art throughout the home.
For us, that’s part of what makes an estate sale so interesting. Instead of seeing an entire room designed at once, you get to see how someone collected and enjoyed different pieces over the years.
A Griswold Find for the Kitchen
Sometimes one familiar name is enough to get collectors interested.
At this sale, that name was Griswold.
Among the kitchen finds, shoppers discovered a Griswold cast iron skillet with its lid. The piece appealed to collectors, but it could just as easily return to someone’s kitchen for everyday cooking.
After all, that’s one of the nice things about older kitchenware. Many of these pieces weren’t made just to look good on a shelf. People used them for years, and decades later, new owners can continue using them.
Antique Lighting With a Little Christmas Magic
Another highlight was an antique Tiffin Glass Santa Claus in Chimney Christmas lamp dating to the early 1900s.
It was exactly the sort of piece that made you stop and look twice.
In addition, the home had a 20th-century reverse-painted scenic glass table lamp. Together, these pieces gave antique lighting lovers something a little different to discover.
Vintage Christmas items can bring back memories, especially when you come across something you haven’t seen in years.
Along with the Santa lamp, shoppers found an antique Nativity set, an outdoor Nativity set, and other seasonal décor.
Vintage Collectibles Throughout the Greentree Estate Sale
The collectibles didn’t stop with one room or one category.
Shoppers found Heinz collectibles, a vintage Mickey Mouse talking alarm clock, vintage records, brass décor, weighted sterling silver salt and pepper shakers, and a Rogers Bros. silver-plated flatware set.
As a result, different corners of the house appealed to completely different shoppers.
One person might walk right past something that makes another person stop immediately. Sometimes that’s because they’re a collector. Other times, an item simply reminds them of something they grew up with.
That’s part of the fun. You never really know which piece will be the one for somebody.
Furniture for More Than Just the Collector
While the vintage and MCM pieces got plenty of attention, the home also offered furniture for shoppers who simply needed something useful.
There was a dining room table and hutch, couches, upholstered chairs, a modern desk, a farmhouse-style hallway table, an antique wooden chair, and a Singer sewing machine.
Outside, shoppers could also check out a patio set and concrete décor.
We always enjoy this part of an estate sale because not every purchase needs to become a collectible.
Sometimes you’re just looking for a desk.
Then again, sometimes you walk into an estate sale without needing a desk at all and somehow leave wondering where you’re going to put one.
That’s estate sale shopping.
Designer Clothing, Jewelry and a Few Surprises
The closets gave shoppers another place to explore.
This Greentree home included costume jewelry, designer women’s clothing, dresses, hats, accessories, quality jackets and coats, and even clothing with the original tags still attached.
Plus, there were vintage T-shirts mixed in along the way.
People sometimes overlook clothing when they think about estate sales. However, it can be one of the most interesting areas to browse.
Styles come back around. Vintage pieces have their own personality. And every now and then, you find something you simply wouldn’t see hanging on a rack at a typical store.
Glassware, China and Everyday Finds
Of course, a home isn’t made up entirely of collectibles.
This one also had plenty of glassware, china, dishware, decorative pieces, and everyday household items.
These may not always be the first things featured in an estate sale advertisement. Still, they’re often the things shoppers actually take home and use.
A set of glasses can end up on someone’s dinner table that evening. A serving dish might become part of another family’s holiday tradition.
We think there’s something pretty nice about that.
What Made This Greentree Estate Sale Memorable
Looking back at this Greentree estate sale, the variety stands out most.
There wasn’t just one kind of shopper who could enjoy this home.
For example, someone interested in Mid-Century Modern design could head toward the Drexel furniture and Lee Reynolds artwork. A cast iron collector could make a beeline for the Griswold skillet.
At the same time, vintage lovers had antique lighting and collectibles to explore. Other shoppers could browse clothing, furniture, glassware, holiday décor, and useful household items.
That’s what makes these sales so much fun for us.
A home doesn’t fit neatly into one category. And honestly, neither do the people who come through the door.
Thank You, Greentree
Finally, a big thank-you to everyone who came out to our Greentree estate sale on Rhodes Avenue.
We love seeing what catches people’s attention. Sometimes it’s the item we expect everyone to ask about. Other times, it’s something sitting quietly in a corner that suddenly becomes someone’s favorite find of the day.
That’s part of the fun.
At Allay Estate Sales, every house introduces us to a different collection and a different story. We get to share those homes with our shoppers and see belongings move on to their next chapter.
So, if you missed Greentree, keep an eye out for our upcoming sales.
There’s always another house, another collection, and another unexpected find waiting to be discovered.
