Catherine Baker Knoll Estate Sale | McKees Rocks

Catherine Baker Knoll estate

Our recent Catherine Baker Knoll estate sale in McKees Rocks was one of those sales where you could easily lose track of time looking around. The home on Chartiers Avenue held an interesting mix of original artwork, beautiful antique furniture, sterling silver, historical memorabilia, designer clothing, and fine china.

There was a lot to take in, but what stood out most was how personal the collection felt.

Some rooms had the elegance of a traditional home, with ornate furniture, paintings, and decorative pieces. Others held books, collectibles, vintage electronics, and everyday belongings.

As we explored the home, we kept coming across things that deserved a second look. And that’s one of our favorite parts of this work. Every house is different, and you never really know what you’ll find until you walk through it.

A Collection Rich in History and Personal Treasures

One of the more unusual finds was a 1996 $100 bill with a low serial number ending in 104, accompanied by an autographed U.S. Treasury presentation.

It’s not something you come across at an estate sale every day.

The home also had a collection of Pennsylvania and U.S. historical memorabilia, political keepsakes, and signed pieces. Among them were a Bill Clinton signed book, a Mickey Rooney signed photograph, and a Bruce Devlin signed book.

For anyone who enjoys history, there was plenty to look through.

In addition, we came across an antique post office door bank, Chinese Baoding meditation balls, brass collectibles, and other small pieces that caught our attention.

Sometimes the smaller items are just as interesting as the large antiques. You might walk right past something at first, then notice a detail that makes you stop and look again.

Original Artwork That Brought the Home to Life

Artwork was a big part of the Catherine Baker Knoll estate sale, and it gave the home so much of its personality.

One of the standout pieces was a large Chelsea House “Autumn Array” hand-painted oil painting, complete with an ornate gold frame.

There were also original signed oil paintings and watercolor artwork by Andree.

Meanwhile, the collection included artwork and posters by or associated with Yves Corbassière, Henri Matisse, and René Carcan.

We always enjoy seeing how someone puts together an art collection over the years. Sometimes the pieces follow a certain style. Other times, they’re completely different, but somehow they still work together.

This home had that collected-over-time feeling.

The paintings, decorative accents, and furniture all added something different to the rooms. And as a result, there was always something else to look at.

Antique Furniture With Plenty of Character

The furniture was another memorable part of this McKees Rocks estate.

One piece that immediately stood out was a massive Victorian mahogany triple wardrobe, complete with mirrored doors and drawers.

It was the kind of furniture that made you stop and appreciate the craftsmanship. Between its size, woodwork, and details, it had a presence you don’t often see in newer furniture.

Another beautiful piece was an ornate Empire Revival carved mahogany settee with red striped upholstery.

The home also featured an antique Schiller upright piano, secretary desk, oak hutch, dining table, and vintage wooden buffet.

For a different look, there was a French Provincial kidney-shaped coffee table with painted floral scrollwork and gold accents, along with a matching-style dresser.

Of course, not everything was a large antique. Shoppers could also browse desks, dressers, end tables, a wooden service table, and other useful furniture.

That’s what we like about estate sales. Some people come looking for something collectible, while others simply need a good piece of furniture for their home.

And sometimes, the same piece works for both.

Sterling Silver, Jewelry and Collectible Finds

There was plenty to explore in the jewelry and silver collection, too.

The estate included gold jewelry, sterling silver jewelry, costume jewelry, a small sterling silver tray, and sterling silver salt and pepper shakers.

There were also weighted sterling silver candle holders.

Jewelry is always interesting because everyone looks for something different.

Some shoppers appreciate the materials or craftsmanship. Others look for vintage styles that aren’t as easy to find in stores anymore.

And then there are the pieces that simply catch someone’s eye.

We enjoy watching that happen at our sales. Sometimes a shopper comes in with a particular item in mind, but something completely unexpected ends up being their favorite find.

Designer Clothing, Furs and Vintage Accessories

The closets at the Catherine Baker Knoll estate sale had their own collection worth exploring.

There were vintage designer women’s clothes, formal gowns, shoes, heels, scarves, handbags, leather gloves, and luggage.

Among the featured items were a Garfinckel’s fur coat and a Norman Wolovitz fur.

The accessories included designer names such as St. John, Michael Kors, and Escada, along with perfumes, colognes, and other personal items.

What we enjoy about vintage clothing is how much personality it can have.

Some pieces reflect a particular time or style, while others still look just as wearable today.

Plus, there’s something fun about finding a handbag, scarf, or coat that you probably wouldn’t come across during an ordinary shopping trip.

Fine China, Crystal and Pieces Made for Entertaining

The dining and household collections had plenty of beautiful pieces as well.

Among the highlights were Limoges Chambord France china, Kingsley by Lenox china, Johnson Brothers china, crystal glassware, and vintage teacups.

There was also a Cellini Romanesque gold electroplated flatware set, along with silver-plated flatware from 1847 Rogers Bros. and Wm. A. Rogers.

In addition, shoppers could find Lenox collectibles, serving pieces, and more glassware throughout the home.

These are the kinds of things that often bring back memories.

Maybe it’s a china pattern that looks familiar or a set of glasses that reminds someone of family gatherings.

We see that quite a bit at estate sales. People recognize something from their childhood or remember a relative who had a similar piece.

And while some shoppers collect fine china, others simply enjoy using it.

There’s something nice about knowing these pieces can continue to be part of dinners, holidays, and everyday life in another home.

Decorative Details Throughout the McKees Rocks Home

Beyond the artwork and furniture, the home had so many smaller decorative pieces that added to its character.

A large Turkish Ladik wool area rug, measuring approximately 7 by 9 feet 7 inches, was one of the standout items.

The collection also included Famille Rose ginger jars, Lladro porcelain figurines, blue and white ceramic orbs, and a Chinese Chinoiserie jewelry box.

Meanwhile, vintage ornate lamps, Oriental-style lamps, a Nippon vase, and a brass trifold mirror added even more variety.

There were also Willow Tree figurines, vintage art glass, religious items, brass bookends, mirrors, and decorative accessories throughout the rooms.

What made this part of the sale interesting was the mix of styles.

You could find something elegant and traditional in one corner, then come across a smaller collectible or unusual decorative piece somewhere else.

As a result, browsing the home felt less like looking through a store and more like getting a glimpse of someone’s personal taste.

Vintage Electronics and Everyday Finds

Of course, the home wasn’t all antiques and fine furnishings.

The Catherine Baker Knoll estate sale also had a nice selection of vintage electronics, books, and practical household items.

One of the more interesting pieces was a working Grundig 4570 stereo.

The collection also included a Pioneer VSX-920 receiver, Sony CDP-CE375 CD player, CDs, books, and literature.

Shoppers could also find a Precision sewing machine, vintage Lady Sunbeam Shavemaster, Shark vacuum, office supplies, and other everyday belongings.

These items might not always get as much attention as a large antique wardrobe or an original painting. Still, they’re an important part of what makes estate sales worth visiting.

Not everyone is searching for something rare.

Sometimes you’re looking for a useful household item, an older piece of equipment, or a book that catches your interest.

And there’s nothing wrong with leaving an estate sale with something simple that you’ll actually use.

What Made This Estate So Memorable

Looking back at this sale, what stands out most is how much variety one home could hold.

There were historical pieces for collectors, artwork for people who appreciate original paintings, and antique furniture for anyone who loves traditional craftsmanship.

At the same time, the clothing, jewelry, china, books, and everyday belongings offered something completely different.

It wasn’t a collection that fit neatly into one category.

Instead, the home reflected many different interests and styles, which made it especially interesting to explore.

That’s one of the things we appreciate most about our work at Allay Estate Sales.

We get to spend time around objects that people have collected, used, and enjoyed over the years. Some have obvious historical or collectible value. Others carry a more personal kind of meaning.

Either way, each home gives us something different to learn about and share with our shoppers.

A Lifetime of Memories, Ready for Their Next Chapter

The Catherine Baker Knoll estate sale was a reminder of how much history and personality a single home can hold.

From the Victorian mahogany wardrobe and original artwork to the sterling silver, designer clothing, signed memorabilia, and fine china, the collection had so many interesting details.

But beyond the individual pieces, what we’ll remember is the home as a whole.

There was something to appreciate in nearly every room, whether it was an impressive antique or a small item tucked away on a shelf.

We enjoyed bringing this collection to our shoppers in McKees Rocks and seeing these belongings get another opportunity to be appreciated.

After all, that’s one of the things we love about estate sales.

The items may leave the house, but the stories connected to them can carry on.
